Update November 21st, 2006
Financing
has been completed for our Wharf and Breakwater project. The contract was
awarded to Valley Excavation Services and signed on November 3, 2006. Fundy
Engineering and Consulting will be monitoring the work.
Valley Excavation Services will be starting to blast rock during the week of November 20 – 25, 2006. The project met some delays at the onset because of the high water levels in November. Construction is expected to be completed around February, 2007.
Once construction has been completed, the Club will be able to increase its membership, thereby making it available to anyone who requires dock space. For the first time in many years we will have dock space available for up to a total of 14 new members.
Our recently established committee responsible for the design of our docks had their first meeting on October 30, 2006. A large amount of work has already been done by the committee; however, there is still a fair bit of work ahead until the opening of the docks by the either the end of May or the beginning of June, 2007.
The committee has already started the process of constructing additional docks. We are currently building 6 new longer docks, which are the equivalent of 12 old ones. A prototype was placed in the water and tested for strength and stability. Some minor adjustments were applied and the decision was made to proceed building the remainder of the docks.
We are looking into some of the details of the design aspects that were scheduled for completion during construction such as the anchor blocks attachments. The possibility of moving the pump-out from the end of the T dock to the Wharf is being looked at as well.
The Wharf Committee entertained discussion with the town of Rothesay for possible funding assistance. Council voted to refer our request to the Finance Committee for consideration in ongoing budget discussions. We are also contacting some businesses, our MP, and MLA for funding assistance.
A beautification program is underway. A number of plants to be used to improve the appearance of our green space were purchased on sale just prior to the closing of some of the garden centers. Three club members have come forward and offered their help with the planting and maintenance of the flowerbeds, trees and scrubs. Thank you, your help is much appreciated.
