Youth Learn to Sail
RYC’s Learn to Sail program progresses through structured levels to help young sailors build skills, confidence, and a love for sailing.
Level 1 – Introduction to Sailing
Focus: Basic boat handling, rigging, safety, and water confidence
Activities: Games, short sail sessions, teamwork exercises
Level 3 – Intermediate Sailing
Focus: Refining boat handling, sail trim, racing rules, and teamwork
Activities: Longer sails, small regattas, and skill-building challenges
Level 5 – High Performance / Racing
Focus: Optimizing performance, advanced tactics, and competition preparation
Activities: Regattas, crew leadership, and skill mastery
Level 2 – Sailing Fundamentals
Focus: Steering, tacking, jibing, and understanding wind and points of sail
Activities: Drills, short races, and basic navigation
Level 4 – Advanced Sailing / CANSail 4–5
Focus: Technical skills, advanced maneuvers, racing strategy, and seamanship
Activities: Competitive racing, fleet sailing, and leadership opportunities
