RYC Learn to Sail – Code of Conduct
The RYC Learn to Sail Program is built on fun, safety, respect, and sportsmanship.
All sailors are expected to follow Sail Canada and RYC rules, respect instructors, peers, and Club property, and contribute to a positive learning environment.
Key Expectations for Sailors:
-
Sail for fun and skill development, while showing teamwork, discipline, and confidence.
-
Respect instructors, fellow sailors, and Club equipment.
-
Treat boats and gear as your own.
-
Follow safety guidelines, be on time, and leave electronics in bags during sessions.
-
Unsportsmanlike behaviour, bullying, or the use of alcohol, drugs, or tobacco is strictly prohibited.
-
Discipline RYC follows a three-strike policy for behavioral issues: Warning and recorded strike.
-
Warning, possible removal from class/day, and parent/guardian meeting. Removal from program depending on severity; continued issues may result in expulsion.
-
Expectations for Parents & Guardians Encourage fair play and a positive attitude. Support your child’s learning and enjoyment of sailing. Applaud effort, not just results. Address concerns first with instructors, then Head Instructor, and finally the Learn to Sail Director if needed.
By following these guidelines, sailors and families help maintain a safe, inclusive, and fun environment for everyone at RYC.
